For Laura: Davey Wonders . . .
Feb. 1st, 2008 03:07 pmbecause she asked.
it's just a little old something I wrote once upon a time . . .
there's no snow, but it does mention February . . .

Davey Wonders . . .
. . . whether Paulie is watching the same moon. Full. Round.
Luminous.
Wonders how many full moons they have observed. Separate. Together.
Always together. Davey wonders if they are now connected by DNA.
Knows it's a distinct possibility. Probability. Certainty.
Because he can feel Paulie in everything he does. In everything he
knows. In every thing he is.
Davey wonders if there will ever be a time, if there will ever be a
place, if there will ever be a pull of the moon that anchors them in
the same place, at the same time.
Davey wonders how he ever let his heart escape. Unnoticed. Into
another man's chest.
Davey wonders why Paulie is walking toward him at 2am in the
Knightsbridge Arms Pub, in the darkest corner of London, on a
Thursday night in the middle of a frozen February.
Davey wonders how Paulie knew. Davey wonders why he wonders, after
all the years, after all the moments, after all.
"Hi, Davey, whatcha doing?"
"Just wondering . . . what took you so long?"
